Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm Cinematic and Gameplay Teasers

In the wake of several “leaks”, Blizzard has posted these Heart of the Swarm teaser trailers for our delicious consumption. Worth noting is the strong emphasis on direct upgrades for Kerrigan, which likely implies that she will be functioning almost like a hero from Warcraft III. As we journey through the game, it’s probable she will take on a sort of RPG dynamic, becoming more and more unstoppably powerful.

Nony’s First Courage

Youtube user WilleTheDarKo recently re-uploaded some great, thought to be lost footage of Nony (Team Liquid’s Tyler) competing in his first Courage event in Korea. He did so at the request of a few Team Liquid users. The footage was originally taken by Artosis for SC4All.

Blizzard Confirms League Freeze Rumor

Blizzard Community Manager Basiok has finally confirmed what the internet has long suspected, that all current Starcraft 2 league promotions/demotions are frozen. The issue should not affect MMR or ranking points, and the moment the freeze is lifted the next game will determine any appropriate adjustments in league placement based on games played during the freeze. This means the games you’re currently playing still affect league placement, the movement is simply delayed.

While he does not give us an exact reason, he does imply that there is an issue with the Grand Master league that needs to be addressed before normal ladder movements can resume. For my money I’d bet it has to do with the drop-hack kefuffle from a few weeks ago. The full quote is after the jump: Read on…

Big GSL Format Changes on the Horizon

GSL Logo

As popular as the GSL is, it’s still a young, evolving league with a format that has received its fair share of complaints about accessibility. The climb into Code S is a long trudge, and once you’re there it’s incredibly easy to find yourself hanging on by the proverbial thread. Just look at IMmvp, who went from champion to Code A in a single season; or the ever innovative former Code S player LeenockfOu, who was knocked out of Code A altogether by a completely new face in GSL May. Now it looks like Code S players can breathe easier, if only slightly.

Starcraft Without Borders: TLO to Stream for Charity

It’s not uncommon for professional athletes to team up with charities for fundraisers, galas, auctions, or promotional work. Star power attracts attention and serves as a fantastic tool for donor motivation. As Starcraft 2 has grown, so too have the fan bases of individual professionals. What’s more is that those professionals participate in what is unquestionably one of the most international of competitive activities. Not only are events played around the world, but internet-exclusive broadcasting shattered geographical barriers, allowing people in South America to watch events in Korea, or people in The Netherlands to enjoy the NASL.

How appropriate, then, that LiquidTLO (aka TheLittleOne aka “Everyone’s favorite German”) will be streaming all day on Sunday, May 22 for the global charity, Doctors Without Borders. Full TL press release after the jump. Read on…
