Demon Slayer’s “Akaza’s Return” rakes in 25.78 billion yen a month after premiere

The film has now become the third highest-grossing Japanese film in Japanese box office history.

Demon Slayer’s “Akaza’s Return”, the first entry to the “Infinity Castle “ trilogy of movies for the franchise, has broken yet another record a mere 31 days after its Japanese premiere.

The movie has logged a whopping 25,782,656,600 yen (US$174,859,910.76) in total box office revenue, climbing the ranks to become the third highest-grossing Japanese film in Japanese box office history.

The film has now beat Makoto Shinkai’s 2016 film “Your Name”, which had grossed 23.150 billion yen.

Once again, it's a massive jump. Just last week, 12 August, “Akaza’s Return” logged a total of 22.073 billion yen in earnings as it marked its 25th day in theatres. It had initially landed in  fourth place, beating out “One Piece Film: Red” (2022), “Princess Mononoke” (1997), “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004), “Bayside Shakedown 2” (2003), “The First Slam Dunk” (2022), and “Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram” (2024).

With how “Akaza’s Return” is going, fans can expect to see it overtake “Mugen Train”, another film in the Demon Slayer franchise, for the top spot in the coming weeks. “Mugen Train” has a recorded total of 40.430 billion yen in Japanese box office gross revenue.
