The first movie of the Infinity Castle trilogy has earned a whopping 7 billion yen in its first four days.
According to a press release by Aniplex, the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie - Infinity Castle Arc Chapter One - Akaza’s Return has truly lived up to its hype. The movie has broken every single opening weekend box office record in Japan, and has already become the second highest-grossing film in the country for 2025.
“Akaza’s Return” on track to beat out “Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback”
The film opened on Friday, 18 July, with 1.15 million tickets sold and 1.64 billion yen (US$11.11 million) in earnings, earning the number one Japan box office opening day record.
Following this stellar performance, the movie increased its earnings to 1.8 billion yen (US$12.47 million) with 1.26 million tickets sold on Saturday, 19 July.
However it was the third day, 20 July, that became the highest-grossing single day for “Akaza’s Return”. The movie earned 3.03 billion (US$13.76 million) with 1.42 million ticket sales, cementing its place as the highest-grossing three-day opening weekend of all time in Japanese theatres with a total of 5.52 billion yen (US$37.42 million), with 3.84 million tickets sold.
To close out its 4-day long opening weekend run, “Akaza’s Return” banked 1.79 billion yen (US$12.13 million) with 1.32 million tickets sold on Monday, 21 July, bringing the gross total to 7.31 billion yen (US$49.55 million), making it the second-highest-grossing movie behind “Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback”–whose record sits at 14.47 billion yen total box office.
The movie also attracted 3,846,613 viewers in its opening weekend, signifying Demon Slayer’s enduring legacy in the hearts of anime fans nationwide.
