The highly anticipated magical anime was supposed to come out this year.
In a disappointing update, the official website and social media accounts of the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier anime revealed that the broadcast has been postponed to 2026. Previously, the anime was set to make its debut in 2025 (likely in the Fall anime season). However, the series will now air next year, although we don’t know exactly when.
Witch Hat Atelier anime adaptation details
According to the post by the production team on 6 September, the additional time will be taken to improve the quality of this anime to fully capture its charm. The staff also apologised to the viewers who have been eagerly waiting for the anime and promised to deliver the highest quality when the show finally airs. For now, fans can wait on an update from the official accounts of the anime. No cast details of the series have been revealed as of yet.
The dialogue-less trailer for the anime series looks absolutely enthralling, which is on par with the original manga by Kamone Shirahama. Ayumu Watanabe directs the anime at BUG FILMS. Kairi Unabara designs the characters while Yuka Kitamura composes the music. Shirahama’s manga series is published in English by Kodansha, who describes the story as:
In a world where everyone takes wonders like magic spells and dragons for granted, Coco is a girl with a simple dream: She wants to be a witch. But everybody knows magicians are born, not made, and Coco was not born with a gift for magic. Resigned to her un-magical life, Coco is about to give up on her dream to become a witch…until the day she meets Qifrey, a mysterious, traveling magician. After secretly seeing Qifrey perform magic in a way she’s never seen before, Coco soon learns what everybody “knows” might not be the truth, and discovers that her magical dream may not be as far away as it may seem…
