Anime movie “Cocoon -One Summer of Girlhood-” receives 25 August broadcast

The 60-minute long film was previously shown in March 2025 during a special broadcast.

The special television anime movie Cocoon -One Summer of Girlhood- just released a new key visual. It was confirmed by the official X (formerly Twitter) account of NHK that the film will be released in Japan on 25 August, 2025. Previously, the film was shown in a special early broadcast in March of this year.

The main cast of the anime project consists of: 

  • Mayu voiced by Hikari ‌Mitsushima
  • San voiced by Marika ‌Ito

Yukimitsu Ina directed the movie at Sasayuri. Hitomi Tateno was the animation producer while Kensuke Ushio provided the music.

The movie is based on the josei manga series Cocoon by Machiko Kyō. It was previously adapted into a stage play in 2013. The story is based on the real-life Himeyuri students of Japan, who formed a nursing unit for the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. The manga follows Mayu and San, two students who are forced to serve as soldiers during the war and have to do anything to survive.
