The official social media account of the artist management agency MOJOST announced that the legendary singer Nobuo Yamada (NoB) has passed away. He died on Saturday, 9 August at 1:39PM JST at the age of 61, due to kidney cancer. His family held a private funeral.
The former lead vocalist of the band Make-Up was known in the anime community for singing theme songs for the Saint Seiya and Super Sentai series.
Nobuo Yamada’s performances will live on with his fans
A farewell party will be organised for the fans to bid their final farewells to their favourite artist. However, no details about the time or venue has been announced yet.
This February, Yamada had announced that he was diagnosed with kidney cancer seven years ago. Although he continued to perform, he cancelled the Saint Seiya Pegasus Fantasy Grand Finale performance in March, as well as a guest appearance at the Tarō Kobayashi Festival in the same month.
Born in 1964, NoB was known for singing the opening theme songs for the Super Sentai series’ GoGo Sentai Boukenger, Tensou Sentai Goseiger, and miniseries Super Sentai Strongest Battles. However, he was most remembered for the Saint Seiya anime’s first opening theme ‘Pegasus Fantasy’ and the ending theme ‘Blue Forever’. He also sang the theme song ‘Never’ for the Saint Seiya movie Heaven Chapter ~ Overture. Yamada was the former lead singer of the band Make-Up as well as a performer in the Project.R musical ensemble. The world of anime and music will miss him dearly.
