The anime is based on Yutaka Narui’s Tachikawa Jinsuke stage play quadrilogy.
The Aniplex Online Fest 2025 took place on Saturday, 13 September, and revealed details about many new and returning anime. One of these announcements was for “Inherit the Winds”, an original TV anime.
Although the premiere window of this series is yet to be revealed, a short teaser trailer was released, giving fans a look into what they can expect from this historical fiction. A new official website and X (formerly Twitter) have also been opened for the anime.
Inherit the Winds anime adaptation details
The new trailer doesn’t have any voiceovers, as the cast of the anime is yet to be determined. However, the beautiful visuals are a treat for the eyes. Aniplex, Azuki Mashiba, and Yutaka Narui have been credited for the story, and Narui is also penning the scripts for the TV anime. Tomohiro Kawamura directs the anime at Live2D Creative Studio and Drive Inc. Fumi Ebina designs the characters for the anime while Shigeru Kishida composes the music.
Yutaka Narui is a revered Japanese playwright and the founder of the theatrical group Caramel Box. His Tachikawa Jinsuke series is a collection of four period plays set during the Meiji Restoration in the Bakumatsu era in Kyoto. The story follows a fictional soldier who is aided by a famous Shinsengumi member named Sōji Okita. The man is named Jinsuke Tachikawa by Okita and begins his new life amidst the Mibu soldiers.
