The Dinner Table Detective anime series, based on Tokuya Higashigawa’s novel mystery novel series of the same name, just revealed more details. The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the series announced that the show will start airing on 4 April, 2025. Alongside the release date, the anime also revealed a new visual and its first ever preview video, which highlighted the voice actors.
The Dinner Table Detective cast and staff details
According to a report by Comic Natalie, the three main voice actors for the upcoming series have been announced so far. This includes:
- Kana Hanazawa as Reiko Hōshō (Mitsuri Kanroji in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Akane Tsunemori in Psycho-Pass)
- Yuki Kaji as Kageyama (Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan and Shoto Todoroki in My Hero Academia)
- Mamoru Miyano as Kyōichirō Kazamatsuri (Light Yagami in Death Note and Chrollo Lucifer in Hunter x Hunter)
The anime series is being produced by studio Madhouse with Mitsuyuki Masuhara directing. Mariko Kunisawa is in charge of the scripts while the animation character designs are being done by Izumi Kawada based on the original character designs by Takeshi Hama. The latest trailer also previewed the ending theme song for the anime, titled Rhapsody. It will be performed by BILLY BOO.
The Dinner Table Detective story and other details
The original novel series of The Dinner Table Detective is written by Tokuya Higashigawa and illustrated by Yūsuke Nakamura. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Aya Kawase, was also published in 2011. The series has already been adapted into a live-action TV series and movie. A sequel novel series titled Shin Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de came out back in 2021.
The story of The Dinner Table Detective revolves around Reiko, who is the heiress of the Hosho Group and also a new detective. She and her senior Kyōichirō Kazamatsuri, who is also the heir to Kazamatsuri Motors, try solving difficult cases together. Reiko is often helped by her butler and chauffeur Kageyama, who has extremely sharp deduction skills and an equally sharp tongue. However, he refuses to guide the rookie detective before they all eat dinner.
