Making the first two seasons of Solo Leveling took a lot of effort, so fans would have to continue to wait and support the series.
The future of Solo Leveling anime's Season 3 is filled with promise, with both the producers of the anime and Crunchyroll’s CEO hopeful that it will come to fruition.
Despite the massive success of previous seasons, with Season 2 breaking records on platforms like Crunchyroll and becoming the most-reviewed anime, surpassing giants like One Piece and Demon Slayer, the journey towards Season 3 still faces obstacles.
In an interview with Deadline Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini shared that while the team is eager to continue, a few elements still need to come together. When asked about the possibility of a third season, he said, “We hope so. The [series] creators want to work on a lot of shows. Anime is really popular, so there’s a lot of demand, and we have to find the right time to get started on the next season.”
Purini also spoke about why Solo Leveling has struck a chord with so many viewers:
“The most important thing is the theme of the story, it has a lot of themes from gaming. If you are an RPG player, or play first-person-shooting games, you understand it. When people see those themes in a narrative story format like this, it is new and it is different, and it is a language they speak and that makes it much more compelling.”
Although the series has built a large following, both Crunchyroll and the production team have made it clear that Season 3 will only happen if enough people continue to support it.
Season 3 needs your energy, just like a “Spirit Bomb”, producers said
During a recent Reddit AMA, producers Sota Furuhashi and Atsushi Kaneko said they need the audience to get behind the series if it’s going to return. Kaneko said, “Do you know Dragon Ball's Genki-dama (Spirit Bomb)? We need your energy! If we’re going to make a Season 3, it’s going to take all the support and energy from the fans. I learned that from Akira Toriyama himself! May the great Akira Toriyama Rest in Peace.”
Kaneko also explained how much work goes into making the anime. “Each episode takes about 10 months to complete, with some of the longer ones taking up to 12 months. As for localisation, we work hard to achieve a near-simultaneous global launch. Subtitling happens almost around the clock to meet the delivery, and the dubbing process typically takes 2 to 3 weeks per episode.”
Particularly, Kaneko mentioned how Episode 24 stood out during production. “Episode 24 really stood out for me. I don’t recall the exact average, but most Solo Leveling episodes typically had around 8,000 to 10,000 frames. Episode 24 had about 17,000, which completely eclipses the others.”
That hard work didn’t go unnoticed. Gosu Anime was also quite impressed with Episode 24, Are You the King of the Humans, which featured the intense, extremely detailed fight between Jinwoo and Beru. While not everything in the episode was perfect, the animation, framing, storyboarding, music, and flow made the fight well worth the wait. The anime stepped things up even further compared to Episode 23, with added scenes that weren’t in the manhwa making the long-anticipated battle feel even more satisfying.
The path to Solo Leveling Season 3 may still be uncertain, but the excitement and dedication from both the production team and the fanbase show it’s a real possibility. Ultimately, fans will need to remain passionate, continue supporting the series, and wait patiently.
