Ranma ½ Season 2 sets premiere date to 4 October

The anime also revealed its theme songs, plus additional cast members. 

The second season of the new anime adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ is all set for a 4 October premiere! Season 2 will debut on NTV with episodes airing weekly. Streaming giant Netflix will stream Season 2 after the television broadcast concludes. 

Additionally, a digest video summarising the events of Season 1 is now available to watch on Mappa’s YouTube channel. 

Ranma ½ Season 2 theme songs, cast, staff, and more

The opening theme song for Season 2, titled “Wo Aini” (‘I love you’ in Chinese) will be performed by the band Wednesday Campanella. The ending theme song, “Panda Girl”, will be performed by Nishina. 

The new cast joining Season 2 are:

  • Toshiki Seki as Mousse, she reprises her role from the original 1989 to 1992 anime
  • Kaori Nazuka as Ukyo Kuonji
  • Kazuhiko Inoue as Happosai
  • Ako Mayama as Cologne
  • Akira Ishida as Hikaru Gosunkugi

While previous cast members are returning to reprise their roles:

  • Kappei Yamaguchi as Ranma
  • Noriko Hidaka as Akane Tendou
  • Yamadera Kouichi as Ryouga Hibiki
  • Rei Sakuma as Shampoo
  • Minami Takayama as Nabiki Tendou
  • Cho as Genma Saotome
  • Tomokazu Sugita as Tatewaki Kunou
  • Kikuko Inoue as Kasumi Tendou
  • Akio Otsuka as Soun Tendou
  • Ayane Sakura as Kodachi Kunou

Most of the original staff from Season 1 are returning for Season 2, with the exception of Kosuke Kawamura joining as one of the chief animation directors, and Ryuta Hayashi joining as art director. 

The anime is based on the original manga by Rumiko Takahashi, which ran from August 1987 to March 1996 at Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The story is described in the official website as:

Ranma Saotome and the third daughter of Tendo Dojo, Akane Tendo,are engaged to be married by their parents, but Ranma has a problem. During his training in China, he fell into the legendary training ground "Jusenkyo". When poured with water, he becomes a woman, and when poured with hot water, he turns back into a man.
