Based originally on Chugong’s web novel and its manhwa adaptation by Jang Sung-rak, the Solo Leveling anime first came out back in 2024. Thanks to the popularity of the manhwa and the amazing animation, the series quickly reached the top charts in Crunchyroll. The theme continued with the second season, which was released in January 2025. Recently, in a report, Sony revealed that it’s also the most-watched anime on the platform.
Sony confirms that Solo Leveling is Crunchyroll’s most-watched show
After the series won Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Previously, it was also announced by Kakao Entertainment that the series is the most popular anime on Crunchyroll. However, becoming the most-watched anime of all time on a platform like Crunchyroll with its massive collection of titles is a monumental achievement indeed.
Sony published their Review report for the Fiscal Year 2024, where it was mentioned that Solo Leveling has surpassed all expectations and achieved the highest view count in the history of Crunchyroll (as of the end of March 2025). With millions of fans worldwide who love the action and tension that the show offers, it was only a matter of time. But reaching the milestone so quickly is something that only Solo Leveling could do. It beat big names such as One Piece, Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Demon Slayer to claim the top spot. Now fans are eagerly waiting for the third season of the anime to be confirmed.
Produced by A-1 Pictures, the series is directed by Shunsuke Nakashige. Noboru Kimura writes the scripts, while Tomoko Sudo designs the characters. Crunchyroll describes the story as:
