"Fist of the North Star" revival anime set to premiere 2026

The classic martial arts series is getting a comeback with new cast, staff, and animation for 2026.

First revealed back in 2023 during the 40th anniversary of “Fist of the North Star”, the beloved martial arts manga's anime revival is finally hitting screens in 2026! The news, which was announced on the official website for the anime, also revealed a new visual featuring main character Kenshiro with updated visuals, but still retaining the rugged charm of the original art style.

Judging by the announcement, the “Fist of the North Star” anime will receive both a television and streaming broadcast, although further information will be announced during Anime Expo 2025. It was also revealed that a teaser trailer and main cast will be unveiled during the Warner Bros. Industries panel stage event on 6 July.

The official website introduces the story for “Fist of the North Star” as:

On the land of this devastated world, people cling to hope and desperately seek water and food to survive.
But their hopes are trampled underfoot by violence.
In this world, only power rules, and the weak are simply trampled on.

At the brink of such despair, one man appears.
He is Kenshiro, the successor to the legendary assassination fist "Hokuto Shinken" with seven scars on his chest.
Wandering the wilderness in pursuit of his nemesis Shin, who stole his fiancée Yuria, he answers the cries of the oppressed and lights a light of hope.

Standing before him are the strong men who survived the turbulent times of the century's end, and who have their ambitions and desires exposed.
In this end of the century, a time of plunder and slaughter,
Kenshiro will use his fists to carve out a path through this mad world where even people's prayers go unheeded!

The first anime for “Fist of the North Star” released back in 1984, and is adapted from the manga written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, which serialised in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1983 to 1988.
