Nagi’s football career might be taking another turn soon.
In chapter 308 of the Blue Lock manga, we saw Nagi turn down Buratsuta’s offer to become one of the three people he can choose to be on the Japanese team for the U-20 World Cup. In the recent chapter, Igaguri visits Nagi and talks to him about how both of them got locked out of Blue Lock, but unlike him, who already achieved his dream, Nagi feels frustrated. After hearing what Buratsuta offered Nagi, Igaguri is annoyed, but is able to talk sense into him.

Blue Lock Chapter 310

Igaguri reveals that he went to Nagi’s school and learned from his classmates that he might be in the arcade. The two walk to a park and Nagi asks the other boy what he wants. Igaguri inquires what Nagi is planning to do about football. When Nagi says he doesn’t know, Igaguri says he suspected as much and came here to tell him to not quit the sport. Nagi wonders if he feels the same way as Isagi, but Igaguri says that it’s his selfish ego as someone who dropped out together with him. He asks what Nagi felt the moment the final offer was posted, and he realised he lost.
Nagi answers that he wasn’t surprised. Igaguri says that he felt frustrated but happy. His main goal while coming to Blue Lock was to become a football player and get a salary offer so he didn’t have to work in the temple. When it came true, he was satisfied with that. He asks if Nagi was satisfied. Nagi mulls over the question and answers that sometimes you have to give up on things even if you’re not satisfied. But Igaguri says that there is no limit on dreams. His dream of becoming a pro player was big enough for him to wager his life on it, but not big enough to become the world’s best. He left Blue Lock satisfied, but Nagi is different. He tells Nagi to quit smoldering, as there are no forbidden dreams in the world.

Nagi then tells Igaguri about Buratsuta’s offers, which shocks and enrages the boy as he didn’t get one. Nagi says that he turned him down because he doesn’t want to betray Blue Lock. Igaguri points out that he’s already the world’s biggest Blue Lock traitor. Igaguri reminds him that in the last moment of their final match, Nagi passed the ball to Reo and lost, which is the opposite of what Blue Lock teaches. Nagi asks what he, Isagi, and Reo would think if he took Buratsuta’s offer. Igaguri says that everyone will think he’s lame. But if he gives up on his dream based on what others might think, they will never come true anyway.
When Igaguri left home, he promised that if he couldn’t become a pro football player, he would become a monk. Nagi can’t even say what he wants to win for himself, and he’s stuck because he never thought about what might happen if he fails. Igaguri grabs Nagi by the collar and says that if he had his talent, he would try to be the world’s best until the end, even if it was lame and painful. Then he controls his anger and apologises for losing his temper, saying it’s Nagi’s life after all. But Nagi thanks him for the meet-up and says he would be a good monk. Nagi then leaves, and reveals that talking to Igaguri has gotten him fired up!
Blue Lock Chapter 310 review

My respect for Igaguri shot up to astronomical levels after this chapter. Not only did he open up about his own dreams and frustrations, but came all the way to meet Nagi just because he knew the boy would be wallowing in self-hate. After that, he also talked sense into Nagi, making him realise that the fear of becoming lame in someone else’s eyes is not a good enough reason to give up on your dreams. Props to Nagi, who instead of arguing with Igaguri or belittling him, actually listened. It feels like I just witnessed a massive character development in just one chapter. I can’t wait to see what happens next now that Nagi is definitely taking up Buratsuta on his offer. The chapter was incredibly well-written and depthful.
