“A Star Brighter than the Sun” reveals additional cast, 2 October premiere

The shoujo romance also released its first promotional video. 

Previously revealed to receive an anime adaptation back in February 2025, A Star Brighter than the Sun by Kazune Kawahara now has an exact premiere date: 2 October, 2025! 

The information was revealed alongside additional cast and the series’s first full promotional video, which was posted on TBS’s official YouTube Account.

The additional cast members joining Minori Fujidera as Sae iwata and Yuki Ono as Koki Kamishiro are:

  • Hina Yomiya as Hisui Onodera
  • Taito Ban as Yota Ayukawa
  • Mutsumi Tamura as Mio Kagawa
  • Ryota Osaka as Yushin Izawa

Aya Kobayashi is helming the series as director, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi in charge of composition. The character design is done by Zeng Jinfeng, while the music is composed by Tabuchi Natsumi in collaboration with Sakurai Miki. Studio KAI is animating the series

A Star Brighter than the Sun’s manga began serialisation in Shueisha’s shojo magazine and Bessatsu Margaret in 2021. It currently has 10 tankobon volumes as of 2024. Viz Media licensed the series for an English release in 2024, and describes the story as:

Sae has always been taller and stronger than the average girl. Koki used to be smaller and weaker than the average boy. But now that he’s in high school, he’s tall and super popular! Will their childhood friendship rekindle…and maybe develop into something more?

The manga was nominated for the 12th Anan Manga Award in 2021, and later won the award in its 14th edition last 2023. The 2023 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! ranked the series in eight place as the best manga for female readers.
