Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2 reveals additional cast members

The voice actors of three additional characters have been introduced.

Fans of Grand Blue Dreaming have lots to look forward to, as the second season of the anime adaptation continues to take shape. On 2 February (Sunday), the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the anime announced three new cast members, which were also revealed during the Grand Blue Hanakin Radio Broadcast on the same day.

The reveal introduced the following new characters and their voice actors:

  • Sakurako Busujima, voiced by Aya Yamane (Cecelia Dote in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury)
  • Shiori Kitahara, voiced by Sumire Morohoshi (Juliette in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation)
  • Naomi Otoya, voiced by Yoshino Aoyama (Yoshino Nanase in Wake Up, Girls!)

Based on the manga written by Kenji Inoe and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka, Grand Blue Dreaming follows the story of Iori Kitahara, a college freshman eager to start a new life in a seaside town. His plans for meeting new friends and enjoying his youth take an unexpected turn when he finds himself entangled in the wild, booze-filled antics of his university’s diving club.

Season 1 aired on 14 July 2018, and gained appreciation from fans for its over-the-top comedy and character dynamics. Fans enjoyed its hilarious exaggerations, comedic expressions, and the strong chemistry between the cast. While some noted that it had little to do with diving, it was praised as one of the funniest anime of its season, with many highlighting its absurd yet relatable college life humour.

Production for Season 2 was announced in September 2024. Returning to direct the second season is Shinji Takamatsu (Haven’t you heard? I’m Sakamoto), with studios Zero-G and Liber handling the production. Hideoki Kusama will serve as both character designer and chief animation director, with Yukari Hashimoto (Senpai is an Otokonoko) working on the music.
