The original anime Moonrise released all episodes on Netflix on 10 April, 2025.
What could have been one of the best anime of the Spring 2025 season might just quietly fall of the grid. Moonrise, a passion project that has been in the works since 2018 just debuted on Netflix today, on 10 April. However, due to an alleged lack of marketing from the platform, it seems that the series might not reach the intended audience. Just a day before the premier, one of the producers from WIT Studio took to X (formerly Twitter) to beg the media giant to market the series properly.
WIT Studio producers are dissatisfied with Netflix’s Moonrise marketing
As mentioned, the anime has been in production since 2018. The original net animation went through years of story building and production work only to confirm a release date in April 2025. Back in 2022, Netflix released an announcement trailer for the anime during their Geeked Week showcase. After that, there has been no worthwhile marketing for the series from Netflix. Just a month before the release, the second trailer for the anime dropped.
Just a day before the release, on 9 April, 2025, a WIT Studio producer named Ryoma Kawamura posted on his personal X account, begging for Netflix to promote the series. His desperate words tugged on the heartstrings of many fans who were excited about the anime. Although the official Netflix Anime X page has reposted some WIT Studio posts about the anime, there has been a surprising lack of original marketing from the media giant. Unfortunately, it seems Moonrise has already been released without much fanfare to welcome it.
Moonrise is a massive project with an impressive staff
The sci-fi anime series Moonrise has an excellent team behind it. Masashi Koizuka (Attack on Titan, Reservoir Chronicle: Tsubasa) directed the series under WIT Studio (Attack on Titan Seasons 1-3, Spy x Family). Tow Ubukata (Psycho Pass, Ghost in the Shell: Arise movie series) is the script writer. Not only that, but the legendary Hiromu Arakawa (mangaka of Fullmetal Alchemist, Raiden-18) designed the character for the anime. Ryou Kawasaki (Fate/Grand Order, Romantic Killer) was in charge of music composition for the series.
Thanks to such an impressive production team, those who know about the series are extremely excited about it. Now that it’s out, hopefully Moonrise will be discovered by more people who enjoy sci-fi battle anime. The story follows Jacob Shadow, who signs up to be a soldier to attack the rebels residing on the Moon. Once there, Jacob discovers that his former best friend Phil has now become his enemy. You can watch all 18 episodes of Moonrise on Netflix right now.
