Demon Slayer Infinity Castle becomes top-grossing international film of all time in the U.S

The first movie to the Infinity Castle trilogy has broken yet another record!

A report by Deadline has revealed that the first Infinity Castle film, titled “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns”, is now the Number 5 worldwide highest-grossing film of the year, with an approximate total earnings of US$648 million as of Sunday, 12 October.

Meanwhile, the film has totalled an estimated US$126.6 million total box office revenue in North American theatres, effectively becoming the top-grossing non-English international film of all time in the domestic marketplace. With this feat, Infinity Castle has beaten out the 2000 film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and its 25-year long record, which originally sat at US$126.1 million.

Infinity Castle continues on a high note almost four months since its premiere

Additionally, it has been revealed through a report by The Numbers that Infinity Castle is now the seventh all-time worldwide box-office among rated-R films worldwide, beating out “Les Intouchables” (2011), Mugen Train (2020), and “Deadpool 2” (2018).

Besides these momentous achievements, Infinity Castle is also the highest-earning anime film of all-time worldwide, and has broken yet another record in US theatres during its premiere: that of the biggest anime movie debut, which was originally held by Pokemon: The First Movie since 1999.

Infinity Castle was also awarded by the Critics Choice Association for its fourth annual Celebration of AAPI Cinema & Television with the “International Animation Award” just last week.

The Demon Slayer anime is directed by Haruo Sotozaki under Studio Ufotable. Akira Matsushima is the character designer and chief animation director. Yuki Kajiura and Go Shiina compose the music for the series. Sony Pictures Entertainment and Crunchyroll have the rights to screen the three upcoming movies globally.

The Infinity Castle arc is the final battle story arc of the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge. It focuses on the ultimate battle for survival between the Demon Slayer Corps, Muzan, and the demons under his control.
