The Vampire Hunter D 25th anniversary celebration will include a re-release and remastered Blu-Ray edition.

Written by renowned novelist Hideyuki Kikuchi, the Vampire Hunter D series of novels first started publication in 1983. As of 2024, 55 novels have been published so far. The novel is not only one of the best-selling book series of all time, but also a cult classic that has given birth to several manga and anime adaptations, as well as other forms of media. One such film, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, came out in 2000. It immediately became a fan-favourite anime movie due to its gothic horror elements and fantastic animation.

2025 marks the 25th year since the film first came out. To celebrate the occasion, the movie will be released in several theatres across Japan for a week. According to the announcement, this release will include the film’s Japanese audio, as the initial broadcast only had English audio with Japanese subtitles. Moreover, on March 26, 2025, a new Blu-Ray version will be released for fans. This will include both the original English audio and the Japanese dub. As per the news, this Blu-Ray version is the scan of the original 35 mm negatives and includes 5.1ch DTS-HD Master Audio.

The story of Vampire Hunter D takes place in a world ravaged by nuclear war where vampires, demons, and mutants run rampant. Thanks to humans taking back control slowly, some semblance of order is returning, but it’s still a long way to go. The main plot follows D, a half-vampire, half-human hybrid, known as a Dhampir. Thanks to not having much weakness, D is a perfect vampire hunter who travels around the world with his symbiotic Left Hand to kill monsters.
