The Summer 2025 anime series, beginning this July, is filled with gems. From some of the most popular shonen titles of 2024 returning with sequels to adorable romance and slice-of-life comedies to brighten your day--the season has it all. But if you’re confused about what to watch starting this July, we have made a comprehensive list of Summer 2025 anime you just can’t miss.
10. City the Animation
Kyoto Animation is bringing Keiichi Arawi’s City manga to life this Summer, and comedy fans are understandably excited. The manga is from the same author who penned Nichijou, which has been immortalised as one of the most absurdly comedic anime of all time. From the looks of it, City the anime won’t be lacking in laughter either. It follows college students Midori Nagumo, Wako Izumi, and Ayumu Niikura as they live their weird and wonderful life in a town called CITY. The show will premiere on 6 July, 2025.
9. Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2
When talking about comedy, we can’t leave out Grand Blue Dreaming. One of the most out-there, absurd, raunchy comedies of all time is returning this July. Based on Kenji Inoue’s manga, the first season of the series streamed back in 2018. Now that it’s back after seven years, the audience is ready to laugh until they cry! Iori Kitahara and his diving club buddies will make your day with their crude jokes and absurd adventures. Season 2 is set to premiere on 7 July.
8. My Dress-up Darling Season 2
This is definitely the summer of romance, with one of the most popular romcom shows making a comeback! This Shinichi Fukuda manga series was adapted by CloverWorks back in 2022 and immediately won the attention of thousands of fans. The second season of My Dress-up Darling is coming out this July, although a definitive release date is yet to be confirmed. The story follows the unlikely friendship of a popular girl named Marin, and a loner hina-doll maker called Wakana, as they bond over cosplay.
7. Tougen Anki
This shonen battle anime, based on Yura Urushibara’s manga series, is one of the most-awaited new releases of this season. The first episode is set to premiere on 11 July, 2025. The story of Tougen Anki retells the story of Momotaro and Oni in a modern setting. The protagonist, Shiki Ichinose, is suddenly attacked by someone from the Momotaro faction one day. After his adoptive father passes away trying to save him, Shiki learns that he has Oni blood flowing through his veins. Hell-bent on revenge, Shiki joins an Oni academy and learns about the millennia-old rivalry between the two factions. The good guys are not what they seem.
6. Dr. Stone Science Future Cour 2
The fourth and final season of Dr. Stone, titled Dr. Stone Science Future premiered in January 2025. The first cour was immensely popular, and it was announced that a second cour will follow in July 2025. Senku and his Kingdom of Science will face their most dangerous adversary yet, another scientist named Dr. Xeno. Will Senku’s science finally be able to prove its superiority? The stakes will only get higher in the next cour of the anime.
5. The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity
The summer of love strikes again, with the beautiful romance The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity anime coming out this July. Based on Saka Mikami’s manga, this CloverWorks anime adaptation follows two teenagers, Rintaro Tsumugi and Kaoruko Waguri. While Rintaro attends the infamous Chidori High School known for housing delinquent boys, Kaoruko goes to the elite all-girls Kikyo Private Academy. The two neighbouring schools are known for their long-standing animosity and hatred for one another. But when Rintaro and Kaoruko start becoming close, their teenage hearts refuse to listen to the rules.
4. The Summer Hikaru Died
Toxic love meets supernatural horror in The Summer Hikaru Died, adapted from Mokumokuren’s manga series. This BL anime takes place in a rural town in Japan and follows two teenage boys, Yoshiki and Hikaru. One day, Hikaru is fatally injured while venturing into the mountains alone. He comes back, but Yoshiki soon realises that the entity which returned in Hikaru’s body isn’t him. His feelings for Hikaru confuse him as this supernatural being starts showing interest in Yoshiki. The townspeople suffer from other eldritch beings haunting the surrounding area. The anime hasn’t announced a release date yet.
3. Gachiakuta
We are now smack-dab in the battle shonen territory, with Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta. The manga series is known for its incredible art style, and fans are hoping it also translates well into the anime. The show will premiere sometime in July, although a definitive release date is yet to be revealed. The story of Gachiakuta follows Rudo, a Spherite who’s thrown into the garbage dump after being accused of killing his adoptive father. Once on the ground, instead of dying, Rudo meets a group of people with incredible powers known as Cleaners. With their help, the protagonist dreams of returning to the Sphere and taking revenge on those who wronged him.
2. Kaiju No. 8 Season 2
Kaiju No.8 Season 1 was a smash hit amongst fans when it came out in June 2024. Thanks to the popularity of Naoya Matsumoto’s manga, this anime was a fan-favourite of last year. It was no surprise when the title was renewed for a second season almost immediately. The sequel is coming out this July. Kafka now faces a new predicament as his secret is out for everyone to see. Will he be able to continue being a part of the Kaiju Defense Force and fight against the growing threat that is No. 9?
1. Dandadan Season 2
Science SARU’s anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga was one of the best titles of 2024. Fans loved it so much that the series led the global charts for multiple weeks. From incredible animation to fantastic voice performances, Dandadan has a lot to offer. It’s coming back with a season 2 that will premiere on 3 July, 2025. Momo and Okarun will face even more danger in Jiji’s hometown, which is plagued by an ominous presence. From the looks of it, the sequel will be just as good as the first season! If you haven’t watched the show, now is the perfect time to do so.
