Aoashi manga comes to an end after a decade of serialisation

The manga published its 410th and final chapter on 23 June.

The world of sports manga suffers another loss as Yugo Kobayashi’s football manga Aoashi comes to an end. Chapter 410 of the manga was published in the 30th issue of Shogakukan‘s Weekly Big Comic Spirits this Monday, 23 June, 2025. After 10 years of publication, fans are bidding a tearful goodbye to their favourite sports manga series.

Aoashi is one of the greatest names in recent manga history

Yugo Kobayashi’s series began publishing Weekly Big Comic Spirits back in January 2015, which means the manga has been going on for more than a decade now. Shogakukan published volume 39 of the manga on 30 April, 2025. This means there’s one more volume to come. Aoashi has sold a total of 23 million copies worldwide. It also won the  65th Shogakukan Manga Awards in January 2020.

Not only is it an extremely enjoyable manga, but was also adapted into a fan-favourite 24 episode anime by Production I.G. in 2022. The second season of the anime is set to come out in 2026, this time produced by TMS Entertainment. So although the manga is ending, people have something to look forward to. Moreover, in the same Weekly Big Comic Spirits issue, it was announced that Yugo Kobayashi will publish another manga in the same magazine in Spring 2026. Crunchyroll streams the anime internationally and describes the story as:

After a loss in his last junior high school soccer tourney, Ehime Prefecture’s ace player, Ashito Aoi, is devastated but in every loss there’s a victory. Tatsuya Fukuda, manager of an organization that trains students for one of the leading clubs in the J-League, sees Ashito’s raw talent and offers a tryout to his group. Together they’ll bring the youth club and Aoshi’s talents to new heights!
