David is dead. But Night City lives on.
CD Projekt Red has officially announced a second season to its hit anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a prequel anime to the game Cyberpunk 2077. Stylised as “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II”, the new instalment is now officially in production.
The news, which was revealed during Anime Expo 2025, was paired with a trailer teasing fans what to expect for Season 2–and no, David is not coming back. Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor has confirmed that the protagonist for Season 1 is already dead and gone, with his story over. What a way to bring back the pain!
What can we expect with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2?
According to the brains behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Season 2 will present a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077, and may now feature events within the timeline of the game as opposed to Season 1 being set a year before the game’s events. They describe it as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge.”
As such, fans who enjoyed Season 1 may have to temper their hopes of seeing Lucy again–although she did survive the debacle at the end of Season 1, albeit to much tragedy, it looks like her arc in the greater story of Cyberpunk has come to a close.
Whose story will be told in Season 2? It’s all under wraps for now, as CD Projekt Red is yet to reveal a broadcast window or any other new information. Studio Trigger however, is coming back to produce the new entry to the series, with Kai Ikawashi helming as director, while Masahiko Otsuka and Martosz Sztybor returning as showrunners and writers.
