Mashle: Magic and Muscles and The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 take the second and third spot.
A few days ago, Netflix released their Engagement Report for the first half of the year 2025. It covered 99% of all viewing globally and reported that total watch time exceeded 95 billion hours. Surprisingly, the top spot for anime was taken by Sakamoto Days Season 1, a new title which came out in January 2025. Based on Yuto Suzuki’s manga, Sakamoto Days was placed 39th on the list and garnered over 24.4 million views worldwide.
Sakamoto Days surpassed every other anime title
Fans were surprised by this revelation because there were other titles which were ahead of Sakamoto Days in terms of global popularity. Solo Leveling Season 2 and The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 took the world by storm in the first half of the year. However, due to the global availability of Sakamoto Days, an anime exclusively streamed on Netflix, it was able to take the top spot in viewing hours. The top 10 anime titles on the list are:
