The second movie in the Mononoke trilogy is dropping on Netflix!
Netflix has revealed that the second entry to the Mononoke film trilogy is all set to premiere exclusively on the streaming service on 14 August, 2025.
The news came with a subtitled trailer, describing the movie as:
Dynamics shift, rifts deepen, and a maidservant is mysteriously reduced to ashes. The Medicine Seller must once again delve into the darkness of the Ōoku to uncover the Form, Truth, and Reason.

The film initially opened in Japanese theatres last 14 March. The cast includes:
- Hiroshi Kamiya as the Medicine Seller
- Haruka Tomatsu as Botan Otomo
- Yoko Hikasa as Fuki Tokita
- Yuki Kaji as Saburomaru Tokita
- Cho as Yomichi Tokita
- Kenyuu Horuichi as Roju Otomo
- Ryo Horikawa as Fujimaki
- Naomi Kusumi as Katsunuma
- Yoshiko Sakakibara as Suikoin
- Yukana as Sayo
- Atsumi Tanezaki as Sachiko
The first film of the trilogy, titled ‘Mononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain’, premiered in Japan in July 2024, and is currently available for streaming on Netflix. The movie trilogy is based on the 2007 Mononoke anime, which itself was a spinoff to the popular 2006 ‘Ayakashi - Samurai Horror Tales’ anime.
The movie is directed by Kiyotaka Suzuki under Kenhi Nakamura's chief direction, while Crew-Cell is co-producing with EOTA. The third film, with its title still under wraps, is expected to release in 2026.
