Rudo’s power helps him evade the Adderoy Twins’ destructive power.
In the previous chapter of Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta manga, we saw how powerful the Twins are and how devastating their monstrous dolls can be. But in the recent issue, Rudo finds a way to evade their attacks without damaging their Vital Instruments. However, it wouldn’t have been possible without the special outfit August aka Auggie designed for him ahead of the Doll Festival.
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Gachiakuta Chapter 144 recap

The issue opens with a flashback where Auggie, the Cleaners’ outfit designer, hands Rudo his clothes for the Doll Festival. He explains that he made the headgear from an extinct wolf’s head back when he was 13, but it was destroyed by some bullies. The jacket is made from cloth scraps from the first fabric he ever cut but was never able to throw them away. The boots of the outfit had metal studs, but they became too heavy. Auggie will always remember them for teaching him the importance of weight reduction.
He proudly says that he designed everyone’s clothes around Rudo’s Doll Festival ensemble. Stunned, Rudo asks Auggie why he would do that when the materials were clearly so meaningful to him. Auggie’s sister Eishia answers that he wants Rudo to wear them because he can find the worth in everything. Auggie is embarrassed, but tells Rudo that he wants him to have something to make into a weapon if things turn dire.
Auggie knows that Rudo’s Vital Instrument power can turn anything that was loved into a weapon, and he gives him permission to turn the whole outfit into one whenever he needs. Auggie trusts him with the materials because Rudo will never let them go to waste. In the present, Rudo channels his power into the outfit and awakens each component as the Adderoy Twins’ massive dolls stare at him. Mymo asks if he has been wearing trash this whole time and Rudo answers that they’re not trash but valuable items full of memories and love.

Mymo says he thought Rudo could only make weapons out of trash, and he answers that his research is incomplete. The 3R gloves bring out an object’s full worth, and the more love something has received, the more powerful it becomes. Suddenly, Rudo seems to disappear into thin air. Moments later, he comes back and slams into a broken wall. We realise that his new weapons have given him extreme speed. Rudo remembers Auggie telling him about the weight reduction on the boots and how the tailor said that Rudo is exactly the person he always wanted to dress up.
Rudo turns and starts running toward the Adderoy twins and their monstrous dolls. Mymo screams that being fast won’t help him destroy their vital instruments. No matter how fast he is, to the Twins, it’s like swatting a fly. As Rudo reaches them, the Twins use their dolls to try and catch him, but he’s too fast. Rudo evades all their attacks and even the Twins’ combined power can’t take him down. However, as Rudo becomes visible again, the Twins look at him with shocked eyes. The protagonist says that he was never aiming for their Vital Instruments. Since Mymo’s rule only works through the Chokers, all he had to do was take off the Twins’ Chokers to bring them out of his control.
Gachiakuta Chapter 144 review

Auggie’s plan to have Rudo channel his power through the outfit is nothing short of genius. The inclusion of meaning pieces of fabric and other materials was also incredibly clever. And of course, the only person who can ever truly pay homage to items like that is Rudo, someone who loves the things other people consider to be trash. The sequence where the giant dolls were trying to find Rudo was amazing, and Kei Urana’s art is breathtaking as always. But our favourite protagonist has already gotten hold of what’s important, which are the Chokers. Things should be considerably easy for the Cleaners from this point on, but I have a feeling there’s something else lurking in the background.
