Gountess’ father gave him a Watchman series necklace belonging to the Surebrec family.
In the previous chapter of Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta manga, we saw Mymo telling Gountess that he has one last job for him. Even after sucking him dry for years and taking everything for him, Mymo’s only card left against Gountess is Too Lily. In the recent chapter, we learned about the Choker Maker Gountess’ tragic past, and how Too Lily became such a big part of his life. Moreover, we learn that there’s a connection between Gountess and the Surebrec family, which Rudo also belongs to.

The issue begins with Mymo saying he has one last job for Gountess, and says he must have gone through a lot of pain to keep Too Lily safe. In a flashback, we see a young Gountess overhearing his grandparents saying that he won’t make it to adulthood because of his weak heart. Both his parents were lost to a terrible disease. The only thing that can bring him a little peace now is the necklace he always wears. Gountess remembers one of his attacks due to his weak heart, and how painful it was.
He remembers how his father gave him the necklace, which he said belonged to the Surebrec family. He told Gountess to hold on to it if the pain gets too much. It’s said that to those who are already fulfilled, the necklace is a poison, but to those who are empty it brings peace. To its master, the necklace offers a choice. After getting the necklace from his father, Gountess slowly started feeling a little less empty, but the thought of his impending death always kept him in pain.
One day, while he was looking out of the window, an unruly white-haired girl came to Gountess. Before she could introduce herself, her stomach grumbled. Gountess’s grandparents invite her in to eat with them, and she says her name is Lily. Gountess felt anger towards her as she could freely live her life and childhood. However, while trying to tame her wild hair, Gountess’ family discovers that one of Lily’s eyes is shut due to intense bruising with sewing marks all over her forehead.
Later, Gountess asks her if her parents aren’t worried about her as she comes to his house everyday. Lily reveals that her parents hated her and abandoned her in a trash heap. She somehow managed to survive and went back home, but it was empty. She said she won’t visit anymore if Gountess finds her too noisy. The boy feels bad for her as although he has no future, he has a home. He tells her to visit as his grandparents are happy to see her. Too Lily smiles brightly at him, and for the first time, Gountess realises that even a weak and frozen heart like his can feel warmth when it connects with someone.
Gachiakuta Chapter 148 review
The heartwarming (pun intended) love story has begun! It was both sand and wholesome to read about Gountess and Lily’s tragic past, and how they both found each other. It seems Gountess fell in love with Lily early on, but we don’t really know about her. It’s likely that in the next chapter, we’ll see how Gountess unlocked the powers of his necklace and became a part of Mymo’s evil plans. Unfortunately for him, Mymo has found Too Lily, which means he can make him do anything. I really hope Gountess isn’t killed off and after Rudo and the others take care of Mymo, he can live a happy life with Too Lily. After everything he has been through, Gountess deserves a happy ending.
