Jujutsu Kaisen author Gege Akutami launches new manga series “Mojuro”

Akutami is teaming up with Yuji Iwasaki for a short-term series in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Gege Akutami, best known for writing and illustrating the smash-hit dark fantasy series Jujutsu Kaisen, is back with an all-new manga series after a year of hiatus.

Akutami is working with illustrator Yuji Iwasaki, who handled the art for Nisio Isin’s “Cypher Academy”, to create the short-term intensive series “Mojuro” (Modulo) (stylised as ≡-Mojuro-).

Mojuro” is serialising on Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, and has already released its full-color 54-page first chapter in the 41st issue of the magazine just this 8 September.

Akutami had hinted at this new series during Jump Festa 2025, Shueisha’s yearly celebratory event for its Jump brand and affiliated titles. Not much updates had been given until now, as Akutami struggled with health issues before and after he concluded Jujutsu Kaisen last September 2024.

However this time around, Akutami is only writing the story of the series, which, according to Comic Natalie, is also their first attempt at writing a manga original. The official website for Weekly Shonen Jump has already released a first look at “Mojuro”, Although details about the title are scarce, it seems to be another attempt at a dark fantasy.

The title of the work also seems to be a reference to the mathematical operation “Modulo” (or “modulo operator”), which returns the remainder or signed remainder of a division, after one number is divided by another.

It is unknown whether or not “Mojuro” will be licensed for an English release, although we can expect more information as the series progresses. As it is a “short-term” release, fans can expect “Mojuro” to have a relatively brief story compared to Akutami’s Jujutsi Kaisen
