Fullmetal Alchemist creator’s new anime “Daemons of the Shadow Realm” unveils April 2026 premiere

The anime is based on Hiromu Arakawa’s new manga series.

If you’re a fan of the popular anime shows Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, then we have some excellent news for you. FMA’s author Hiromu Arakawa is having her newest fantasy manga, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, adapted into an anime. As per the Crunchyroll showcase at NYCC 2026, the anime will air some time in April 2026, and continue for two consecutive cours. A brand new trailer has also been released.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm anime cast, staff, and other details

The latest trailer of the anime, as well as its official website, confirms the release window. Unfortunately, the exact date of premiere hasn’t been revealed so far. Furthermore, the anime will have two consecutive Cours, for a total of 24 episodes. 

The cast of the upcoming anime includes:

  • Yuru voiced by Kensho Ono
  • Asa voiced by Yume Miyamoto
  • Dera voiced by Yuichi Nakamura
  • Gabu-chan voiced by Misaki Kuno

Masahiro Ando directs the anime at Bones Film. Noboru Takagi handles series composition while Nobuhiro Arai designs the characters. Other production staff includes:

  • Tsugai designer: Koji Sugiura 
  • Tsugai designer: Yoshiyuki Ito 
  • Colour designer: Yukari Goto 
  • Background art director: Tatsuro Onishi

Crunchyroll is set to stream the anime worldwide in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS and the Indian Subcontinent. The Daemons of the Shadow Realm manga began back in 2021. Square Enix publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:

In a world where certain humans command mighty supernatural duos called Daemons, it is the birthright of "the children who sunder day and night"—twins Yuru and Asa—to rule over these powerful entities.

Separated from a young age and unaware of the truth of their birth, brother and sister must fight to make their way back to each other, claim their birthright, and save the world…
