Duolingo original anime to premiere on 13 October

Beware of the green bird that seems to be…everywhere?

After tormenting internet users for years to learn their languages, the Duolingo app is now ready to conquer the world of anime. You read that right! The official social media sites of the language learning app Duolingo announced that a five-episode original anime in Japanese will be released on 13 October. But what exactly is the Duolingo anime about?

The Duolingo anime looks chaotic and fun

All jokes aside, the latest trailer for the upcoming Duolingo anime, titled “The Final Test” seems to be really entertaining by the looks of the trailer. The five-episode anime will stream on the app’s official YouTube account from 13 October, 2025.

Its menacing title is on par with how thousands of users feel while taking their advanced language tests on the Duolingo app. The anime is in Japanese, but subtitles will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Thai. In the trailer, we can see seven beloved characters from Duolingo appear on screen. They are:

  • The Duolingo bird (Duo)
  • Eddy
  • Falstaff
  • Junior
  • Lily
  • Oscar
  • Zari

The different personalities of the characters will definitely be enhanced in the anime, which will make it more fun. From the trailer, we can assume that these characters were just ordinary people who were recruited by Duo to help language learners stay motivated. In the anime, we see how they keep their streaks, and themselves, alive under Duo’s watchful gaze.

The CMO of Duolingo Manu Orssaud commented, “Anime is a global cultural phenomenon, and for so many people, it’s the spark that gets them excited to learn Japanese.” Through The Final Test, the Duolingo team wants to channel the same passion in a way that’s “Unexpected, streak-obsessed and unmistakably Duolingo.”

The L.A. based animation studio Titmouse is animating the series. The company is known for adult animated cartoon shows like Big Mouth, Metalocalypse, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and more. The main reason behind this new and entertaining venture is to promote Duolingo’s updated Japanese course. Moreover, limited edition plushies of the anime will be available at the Duolingo booth at New York Comic Con this weekend. It seems that every Duolingo user should watch this upcoming anime for even more motivation and fun.
