After hitting Japanese theatres last January, the Miku-led Colorful stage! movie is set to break into American theatres this April 11.
Distribution company GKIDS has revealed in an official announcement to X (formerly Twitter) that they have acquired the license for Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing, a theatrical film based on the hit rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! The movie will open in North American theatres on 11 April, 2025.
The movie is produced by P.A Works and distributed by Shochiku in Japan, with Hiroyuki Hata as director and Yoko Yanaiyama writing the story. Yuki Ayama was in charge of character design, while Satoshi Hono composed the music. The movie debuted in Japanese theatres on 17 January, earning a screen average of over 2.07 million yen over its opening weekend.
GKIDS describes the movie as:
One day after performing, Ichika meets a new Hatsune Miku. No matter how hard this Miku tries to sing, she cannot reach her listeners. With the help of others, Miku must find a way to sing again.
The movie features characters from the Colorful Stage game, including original music and performances from Leo/need, MORE MORE JUMP!, Vivid BAD SQUAD, WonderlandsxShowtime, and Nightcord at 25:00.
Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! is a mobile game developed by Colorful Palette and Crypton Future Media, and published by Sega. The game was produced by Yuichiro Kondo, and was first released in Japan on 30 September, 2020.
