Trigun Stampede sequel set to air in 2026

Vash the Stampede is coming back with a bang in 2026!

A report from Japanese news site Entax has revealed that the smash hit 2023 anime Trigun Stampede is set to be continued with a sequel, titled Trigun Stargaze in 2026. The anime picks up two years after the main events of Trigun Stampede, and a teaser visual, featuring main character Vash, has also been revealed.

Trigun Stargaze to air in 2026

Trigun Stagraze will once again be animated by studio Orange, with director Masako Sato set to helm the series. In the aforementioned report, comments from both Masako Sato and Vash’s voice actor, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka were included, with Sato stating (via machine translation): “How will the battle between Vash and Knives be resolved, and how will it unfold? I hope that everyone will pick up the original work and enjoy both stories.”

While Matsuoka said: “We put our all into acting, aiming for a satisfying ending, so I hope everyone enjoys every bit of it. Even though I knew the original work, it was quite difficult to express the emotions, but one thing I can say is that Vash is Vash. That will never change no matter what. Please watch and see what kind of future each character imagines for themselves and how they move forward."

Kazuyuki Fudeyasu will take over in handling series composition and scriptwriting, no further staff have been revealed. It’s safe to assume that the cast members from the previous season will return to reprise their roles, those being:

  • Vash the Stampede - Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
  • Nicholas D. Wolfwood - Yoshimasa Hosoya
  • Meryl Stryfe - Sakura Ando
  • Roberto De Niro - Kenji Matsuda
  • Legato Bluesummers - Uchiyama Kouki
  • Knives Millions - Junya Ikeda
  • Rem Savarem - Maaya Sakamoto
  • Livio the Double Fang - Genki Muro
  • Zazie the Beast - Tarako
  • Brad - Junichi Suwabe

The plot of the first season of this reboot series to the original 1998 anime, as described by MyAnimeList, is:

On the planet Noman's Land, reporters Meryl Stryfe and Roberto De Niro traverse the desert in search of the infamous outlaw Vash the Stampede. But the man they find near the desolate town of Jeneora Rock is a far cry from the lethal terrorist they expect. In reality, Vash is a passive and carefree drifter; he is a proponent of peace, beloved by the residents of the town. His inaccurate reputation actually stems from the widespread atrocities committed by his twin brother Knives Millions. Still, Vash is dubbed "The Humanoid Typhoon'' due to the tendency for violent chaos to follow in his wake.

Chaos soon arrives in the form of bounty hunters seeking the high price on Vash's head, and their violent pursuit poses great danger to the town and its precious power plant. Thanks to his gunslinging prowess, Vash is able to resist most of these nefarious forces. Yet he must soon face off against the ultimate evil: the unstoppable destructive power of his malevolent brother.

Both the 1998 and 2023 versions of the anime pull from the post-apocalyptic space western manga by Yasuhiro Nightow, which was first serialised in 1995 through Tokuma Shoten’s defunct Monthly Shonen Captain.
