Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games announces staff, additional cast

The yuri anime also released a teaser trailer.

As reported by Comic Natalie, the upcoming yuri anime Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games (Tai-Ari deshita: Ojou-sama wa Kakutou Game nante Shinai), more colloquially known as Taiari, has revealed the production staff, additional cast, and teaser promotional video. The news also came from the official website of the series, and was reported to their official X (formerly Twitter) account).

Taiari is scheduled for release within 2025, although no exact broadcast date has been divulged as of yet.

Taiari additional cast and staff

Ayaka Senbongi is taking on the role of Yu Inui, a fun-loving student who is part of the disciplinary committee, but has loved playing fighting games since she was a child. In an effort to befriend main characters Aya, Mio, and Tamaki, Yu slowly gets sucked into their world.

In a statement celebrating her casting, Senbongi, through a machine-translation, said:

“I didn't want to lose the passion of the original work, so I put my heart and soul into the role from the audition onwards, so I'm extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to actually be on set like this.

I'll do my best to get everyone involved in this heated battle!!

Please look forward to the broadcast!”

Meanwhile, Shino Shimoji is voicing Tamaki Ichinose, who is also a member of the dorm disciplinary committee. She is in charge of the fourth floor and has no sympathy for rule breakers. Above all, she’s someone who absolutely hates losing. Although she’s strict, she secretly practices playing fighting games in her room.

Shimoji released a comment, and through a machine translation stated:

“Tamaki is a dormitory committee member, so she can be strict at times, but she is also kind and cute, and I always have fun playing her.

The anime is packed with the well-paced comedy scenes from the original work, as well as the passion of youth and fighting games.

This is a work that will excite both those who are familiar with fighting games and those who are not.

Please look forward to the broadcast!”

The main cast for the anime was previously revealed a few months back, the characters and their voice actors being:

  • Ikumi Hasegawa: Aya Mitsuki
  • Kana Ichinose: Mio Yorue

Shouta Ibata is helming the series at Diomedea studio as director. Wataru Watari is handling series composition, while Mayuko Matsumoto is handling character design.

The rest of the staff are:

  • Art design: Maho Takahashi
  • Art director: Scott MacDonald
  • Colour design: Yuki Hayashi
  • Director of Photography: Yasuyuki Itou
  • Editing: Toshihiko Kojima
  • Sound director: Yayoi Tateishi
  • Music: Kana Hashiguchi
  • Recording cooperation: FAV gaming

Taiari plot and other details

The original manga series is written by Eri Ejima and started back in 2020 in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Flapper magazine. It was also adapted into a live-action web drama in 2023. Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the English-version of the manga.

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as:

Kuromi Girls’ Academy is a refined, elegant school that expects the very best in deportment from its young ladies. Aya got into this peerless rich-girls’ institution on a scholarship, and hopes to grow as lovely as her fellow student and idol Shirayui. But Shirayui hides a terrible secret: she’s a trash-talking, combo-chaining, newbie-stomping, ruthless hardcore gamer! Could a mutual indulgence in no-holds-barred video game combat grow into a deeper rapport between these two girls?
