Based on Yama Wayama’s popular manga, the Let’s Go Karaoke! anime series recently revealed that the first episode will air some time in July. Captivated, by You, another Yama Wayama adaptation, will also air at the same time. Not only are they based on the works by the same author, the same team is also working on both the projects. Let’s Go Karaoke! also revealed a new voice actor who will be joining the cast. The new cast member is:
- Wada voiced by Shinnosuke Tokudome (Joanne Harcourt in Black Butler: Public School Arc and Kalkris in Übel Blatt)
The main cast members of the series are:
- Satomi Oka voiced by Shun Horie (Kazuya Kinoshita in Rent-A-Girlfriend and Asagi in How I Attended and All Guy’s Mixer)
- Kyouji Narita voiced by Daisuke Ono (Sebastian Michaelis in Black Butler and Jotaro Kujo in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)
The voice actors for the two central characters of Captivated, by You were also announced. They are:
- Miyoshi Hayashi voiced by Kensho Ono (Kuroko Tetsuya in Kuroko’s Basketball and Yuri Briar in Spy x Family)
- Jōji Ema voiced by Koki Uchiyama (Kei Tsukishima in Haikyu!! and Rin Itoshi in Blue Lock)
Produced by Doga Kobo, both of the series are being directed by Asami Nakatani (Made in Abyss, Oshi no Ko). Yukiko Tsukahara (Run with the Wind, Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian) is the assistant director of the projects with Yoshimi Narita (My Senpai is Annoying, Shikimori is Not Just a Cutie) penning the scripts. Mai Matsūra (Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma and Sirius the Jaegar)is the character designer while Takurō Iga (Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits and The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting) is composing the music. Let’s Go Karaoke! and Captivated, by You story and other details
Written and illustrated by Yama Wayama, Let’s Go Karaoke! first started publishing in 2019. The series also received a live-action adaptation in January 2024. The story revolves around third-year middle school student Satomi Oka, who is nervous about the upcoming final choir competition. One day, he is approached by Kyouji Narita, who asks him to do karaoke. It turns out that Kyouji is a gangster who needs to practice singing as the mafia boss has arranged for a karaoke competition. If he loses, he’ll have to get an embarrassing tattoo chosen by the winners. Satomi’s world turns upside down due to this sudden meeting with a yakuza.
Yama Wayamaa’s other manga, Captivated, by You, also came out in 2019. This series received a live-action TV drama in 2021. Captivated, by You is an anthology series featuring loosely-connected stories in an all-boys high school. The two central characters are Hayashi and Nikaido, who couldn’t be more different. However, their lives might be more similar than one would guess.
