What is Bungo Stray Dogs about?
The BSD anime is based on Kafka Asagiri’s ongoing manga series which began publishing in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine back in 2012. The monthly manga was adapted into an anime series with the first and second seasons coming out in 2016. A movie called Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple came out in 2018, followed by the third season in 2019. Both the fourth and the fifth seasons aired in 2023, with more on the way.
The story of Bungo Stray Dogs revolves around Atsushi Nakajima, a young orphan boy who can turn into a massive white tiger. After being kicked out of the orphanage, he meets Osamu Dazai, an eccentric man with a penchant for suicide, who takes him to the Armed Detective Agency. We learned that this organisation is filled with people who have supernatural abilities and solve dangerous crimes. Interestingly, all characters in the series are named after famed authors from around the world.
