Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 manga to end with Volume 13 this September

Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 manga ends in Volume 13, as Myne’s battle to read in peace inside the temple comes to a close this September.

The manga adaptation of Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 is officially coming to a close. Amazon Japan has confirmed that the 13th and final volume of Suzuka’s manga version of Part 2 in Miya Kazuki’s beloved biblia fantasy series will be released on 15 September, 2025.

Final volume of Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 manga set for September 2025

Suzuka has been serialising the Ascendance of a Bookworm manga on TO Books’ Corona EX website, with the 12th volume having launched in Japan on 15 February 2025.

The story follows Urano Motosu, a modern-day book-loving university student who dies in an accident and is reincarnated into a medieval-style fantasy world where books are scarce and only accessible to nobles.

She awakens as a frail, five-year-old girl named Myne (or Main, in some translations), the daughter of a poor soldier. Horrified by the lack of books in this new world, she vows to make them herself, no matter the cost. Her passion for reading drives her to learn about paper-making, ink production, and printing, all while navigating a society rigidly divided by class and power.

As Myne gains attention for her knowledge and determination, she gets involved with the temple, the nobility, and even larger political and religious powers. What starts as a personal quest to read evolves into a struggle for influence, survival, and societal change–all while trying to bring books and education to the masses.

This specific manga arc follows Myne as she begins her new life as a blue shrine maiden, navigating the rigid social hierarchy of the temple in order to continue pursuing her love for books.

According to J-Novel Club, this part of the story begins when “Myne successfully negotiates with the temple to become an apprentice blue shrine maiden, ensuring she will receive the same treatment as a noble.” It marks a turning point in her journey: by aligning herself with the temple, she secures access to rare books but steps directly into a world structured by rigid status hierarchies.

Her dream to read at last becomes a reality, “After such a long wait, she can finally read in the book room!” However, life in the temple is far from peaceful. Myne now must deal with a host of challenges, from navigating temple politics to managing hostile attendants. The system’s power struggles make it clear that “she’ll need to beat society to enjoy her books in peace!”

J-Novel Club released the English version of the ninth volume of Part 2 in May 2024, and continues to publish both the light novels and the multiple manga adaptations in English. Suzuka illustrated both Parts 1 and 2, while Part 3 is drawn by Ryō Namino, and Part 4 by Hikaru Katsuki.

Light novels and anime continue to expand the series

Miya Kazuki originally launched the light novels on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in 2013, with the web novel concluding in 2017. The main print series, illustrated by You Shiina, wrapped up with Volume 33 (Part 5 Volume 12) in December 2023. To date, the series has surpassed 12 million copies in circulation, including digital formats.

The spinoff novel Hannelore no Kizokuin Gonensei, which debuted in 2017, is still ongoing and also available in English from J-Novel Club.

The story’s popularity has also led to an anime adaptation by studio Ajia-do. The first season aired in October 2019, followed by the second in April 2020, and the third in April 2022. All three seasons were streamed globally via Crunchyroll, which also provided English dubs. Two original video anime episodes were bundled with a limited edition novel release in March 2020.

Looking ahead, Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, the television anime adapting Part 3 of the novel series, is set to premiere in spring 2026, continuing Myne’s extraordinary journey in a world where books are a luxury.
