It seems that much like this year, 2026 is also going to be great for all the Yuri fans. A new GL anime, Awajima Hyakkei, based on Takako Shimura’s popular manga series has been announced for 2026. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly when the show will premiere yet. Keep an eye on our website as we will update you on any future news.

Morio Asaka (Nana, Cardcaptor Sakura, My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv. 999) is directing the Yuri anime under Studio Madhouse. Kunihiko Hamada (My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv. 999, Chihayafuru, Ore Monogatari!!) is the character designer while Yasuhiro Nakanishi (My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv. 999, Kaguya Sama: Love is War, Shy) is handling the series composition. Hideki Nakamura (Inuyashiki, Rage of Bahamut: Genesis, Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul) is the background art director with Junko Sakai (My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv. 999, Toilet-Bound Hanako Kun, Astra Lost in Space) as the compositing director. Takahiro Obata (The Promised Neverland, Ninjala the Animation) is composing the music for this project. You can find more details about the series on the official website.
No cast details of the anime has been revealed as of yet. The series is based on Takako Shimura’s manga series of the same name that ran from 2011 to 2024. The story takes place in the same universe as Shimura’s other series Sweet Blue Flowers. It follows the theater club in Awajima Girls’ School where the students juggle romance and their theater careers in an emotional journey. A commemorative illustration by the author Takako Shimura was also published on the official X (formerly Twitter) account.
