Popular game developer Hideo Kojima is dipping his toes in anime.
In an interview with Vogue Japan, video game developer and producer Hideo Kojima, who is best known for his superb Metal Gear Solid franchise, has confirmed an anime adaptation for his latest video game series, Death Stranding (stylised as “DEATH STRANDING”).
Besides the upcoming A24 led live-action adaptation for Death Stranding, Kojima casually confirmed that an anime adaptation is also in the works.
“Death Stranding” anime yet to reveal any further information
As Kojima explained his ambitions for the A24 live action film, he stated: “I am aiming to make "DEATH STRANDING" in a way that can only be done as a film, and that will win awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation.”
Kojima did not divulge any other details about the anime's production, nor did he release any other information in the interview. Although, judging by how he explained his approach towards the various projects based on his popular franchise in an interview with Variety in 2024, it looks like fans of his work can expect something new, as Kojima aims to create a work that will remove the “boundary between games and movies”.
Kojima signed with a major Hollywood talent agency back in September 2024 with the aim to bring video games and the world of media together, in the so-called second phase of his plan for the future of Kojima Productions, his independent video game development studio.
“Death Stranding” is a 2019 action-adventure game that follows a character named Sam Porter Bridges, as he works as a courier in a destroyed earth. The game featured the likeness of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and currently has a sequel, titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” in development for a 2025 release.
