Tatsuya Endo’s popular manga Spy x Family finally brought back the swift and entertaining action scenes it's known for. Hemlock challenges Yor, and tells her that she’s weak after spending so much time playing house with her fake husband and child. But when push comes to shove, Yor shows him why she’s known as the Thorn Princess.

Yor urges Hemlock to stop and promises to not get in the way of his work. But Hemlock keeps swinging his sword at her, intending to kill her. Hemlock is angry because due to Yor’s constant talks about her family, even Gympie has started talking about getting a boyfriend. He says Yor’s head is now filled with thoughts of welcome home kisses and whatnot. Yor tries to protest, saying she’s doing all this to keep up her cover identity. But Hemlock says that none of that nonsense belongs in The Garden. They’re the Shopkeeper’s pruners, and the blades for their motherland. They have no happiness beyond being bloodstained tools.
Hemlock attacks her again, and Yor fights back, asking him to stop as he’s being erratic. Hemlock answers that she’s the one being erratic and in the next move, slices the side of her neck. He says that she doesn’t deserve the title of Thorn Princess anymore. Hemlock thinks how he used to believe that he and Yor were the same due to her empty eyes and aura that repelled everyone. Even having a younger brother didn’t change that. But ever since Yor started living with her fake husband and child, she has been different and her edges have been dulled. It makes Hemlock angry and he believes the person she’s now could never beat him.
He attacks her again, and keeps pestering her with the sword. He tells her that while she was merrymaking with the first ladies and making out with her husband, he was cultivating his skills and strength. He believes that it’s only in isolation that an assassin can become the greatest weapon. He remembers how he refused friends, women, and every attempt at socialising to focus on himself. He even ate and visited amusement parks alone. In the end, Hemlock gave up going to his barber and let his hair grow unbridled. He’s devoted to his isolation and Yor can never compare. He keeps attacking and mocking her, and Yor can’t find a way to evade the long swords swinging at her. When Yor dodges all his attacks instead of engaging, Hemlock disappointedly says that she’s so weak now that even killing her won’t prove his powers.
But then he says that he’ll kill her brother and her family to cut her off from all earthly shackles. This shocks Yor still, and Hemlock continues to say that he’ll talk to the Shopkeeper and bring her their heads shortly. Yor then springs into action, cutting Henlock’s cheek with one of her daggers and saying she won’t let him do that. The two start fighting for real, with Yor giving back this time. In the end, she comes out as the winner after a long tussle, and almost kills Hemlock. But she pulls back at the last minute and lets him fall to the ground. Director McMahon’s bird then comes back and Yor asks Hemlock to follow it with her. However, Hemlock is too shell shocked to move as he can’t get past the fact that someone who was socialising all this time could beat him. The final panel shows Yor pulling him along with her as he keeps murmuring to himself.
Spy x Family Chapter 117 review
This is why you should never threaten the family members of Yor Forger, fake or not. Even though Loid and Anya are her fake husband and daughter, Yor loves them like their own. She also loves her brother Yuri dearly. In the end, she proved that they’re the source of her strength, and not her weakness as Hemlock seems to think. The action sequences in the chapter were pretty nice, with some comedic moments with the elk, which made it more entertaining. It was fun to see Hemlock finally put in his place by Yor. I’m eager to see them fight against the poachers’ leader next.
