The anime adaptation of Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta manga was definitely one of the most awaited titles of Summer 2025. Now that the anime has started streaming, people might have some questions regarding who Givers are and the kind of weapon they use. The first Giver our protagonist Rudo meets is Enjin, who is also a Cleaner with a really impressive Vital Instrument. But what exactly are Vital Instruments? And why are they so important in the Gachiakuta lore?
Warning: Manga spoilers ahead!
What are Vital Instruments in Gachiakuta?

The world of Gachiakuta is divided into two parts- the Sphere and the Ground. Rudo, a poor Spherite, is thrown into the abyss known as the Ground for a crime he didn’t commit. There, he comes across Trash Beasts, monsters born from all the trash the Spherites have thrown into the ground for hundreds of years.
Though Rudo fights well, he is saved by a man named Enjin, who uses his massive weaponised umbrella to kill the beasts. We learn that in the Ground, there are people known as Givers. These are individuals who form a connection so deep with an item that their ‘Thought’ can turn them into powerful weapons.

Although not much is known about ‘Thought’, we do know that an object can be turned into a Vital Instrument over time if a person pours their love into it. Depending on the owner, these instruments can be the attacking and defending type. The first one is used for combat while the other has non-combative abilities.
Some Vital Instruments can be passed down for generations, collecting a large amount of Thought from several Givers to accumulate in it, making it extremely powerful. The Cleaners is an organisation made up of both Givers and Non-Givers. Their main aim is to eradicate Trash Beasts from the Ground. Enjin employs Rudo to also become a part of this group.
Here is a comprehensive list of all Vital Instruments we have seen the Cleaners use in the manga so far.
Enjin–Umbreaker

Enjin is the first Cleaner Rudo meets upon entering the Ground and also the one who takes him under his wing. His Vital Instrument is an umbrella that he carries around. Upon activating, the umbrella becomes a massive weapon known as Umbreaker. Enjin uses the Umbreaker in battle effectively for both short and long range attacks.
It also acts as a shield to protect his teammates when necessary. Despite being an important character, not much is known about Enjin and how he came to activate his Vital Instrument. However, his power proves that he has loved his umbrella for a long time.
Zanka Nijuku–Lovely Assistaff

Zanka is the person Enjin asks to train Rudo when they enter the Cleaners headquarters. Despite being a newer addition, Zanka is adept at using his Vital Instrument, the Lovely Assistaff, which is essentially a nondescript stick in its normal form.
Once activated, it becomes longer and sharper, allowing Zanka to cut through things. His agile fighting style also allows him to deliver deadly attacks to his enemies with the Assistaff.
The instrument can also grow spikes, which allows him to pierce smaller Trash Beast. The staff can also be used to sense vibrations from the ground, which means Zanka can fight even with his vision obscured.
Zanka is from the noble Nijiku Family who make up the Hell Guard. However, after meeting and being defeated by a genius, he left the family, acquired a Vital Instrument, and became a Cleaner. Although his weapon is not as powerful as Rudo’s or Enjin's, Zanka's fighting abilities are praised by everyone. He is also a great mentor figure to Rudo in the series.
Riyo Reaper–The Ripper

This former hitman turned Cleaner is a bit unhinged, but has a golden heart beneath her toughness. She is part of Rudo, Zanka, and Enjin’s team and one of the most combative Givers amongst the Cleaners. Her Vital Instruments are a pair of scissors that become as long as her legs upon activation. Unlike the other Cleaners, Riyo uses The Ripper with her feet, balancing herself on her hands as she cuts through Trash Beasts with ease.
Due to the swing-and-cut nature of her attack, Riyo can deliver two rapid consecutive attacks to her enemies. She also carries a gun with her, something from her hitman days. However, due to a promise she made to Enjin, she only uses the gun non-lethally in dire situations.
Semiu Grier–Eyes

Semiu is a non-combative Cleaner and works as a receptionist at the headquarters. She is the person who arranges Trash Beast cleanups and sends the Cleaners to their allotted locations. Semiu’s Vital Instrument is a pair of glasses that glow golden upon activation. Known as Eyes, these glasses enhance her kinetic visual accuracy, granting her the power to see a person’s true essence and defects if she tries.
She can also catch a glimpse of the immediate future with these glasses, which means she can easily evade projectiles such as knives, bullets etc. If she really tries, she can see much further into the future, but the recoil from the strain might cause her to go blind. That’s why, Semiu holds back her full power.
Rudo Surebec–3R (A pair of gloves from the Watchman Series)

The series protagonist Rudo has one of the more complicated Vital Instruments in the series. It is one of the strongest weapons as the 3R gloves give him the ability to turn a discarded object into a Vital Weapon. The ‘Thought’ in these gloves are so strong that they can wring out the leftover uses from scrap and make it a powerful weapon. However, after every use, the object crumbles away completely.
Not much is known about the Watchman Series Vital Instruments yet, but we do know that there’s a pair of boots, a jacket, a book, and an unknown object. Each of these bear the mark of the Watchman and are extremely powerful in their own right. It also seems that the series is inexplicably connected to Rudo. The Watchman Series Vital Instruments are some of the oldest in the world and have an infinite supply of ‘Thought’ that never runs out.
