“Attack on Titan” to receive the first Global Impact Award at the Anime Awards 2025

The award will be given at the 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards this 25 May.

Crunchyroll has revealed a new award to be handed out in the upcoming 9th Crunchyroll Anime Awards this 25 May: the “Global Impact Award” which celebrates “visionary creators and groundbreaking works that have left an indelible mark on culture, history, and the hearts of audiences around the world.”

It has been decided that Hajime Isayama’s “Attack on Titan” (Shingeki no Kyojin) will be receiving the inaugural award. A representative from the studio MAPPA, which produced the last season for the anime adaptation as well as its final movies, will accept the award on behalf of everyone involved.

“Attack on Titan” was written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, and began serialising in Kodansha’s first issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in September 2009. It ended after 11 years of publication in April 2021. The manga has a total of 34 tankobon volumes, with Kodansha USA releasing an English version from 2012 to 2021.

“Attack on Titan” received an anime adaptation by WIT Studio, with its first season airing between April to September 2013. The second season aired from April to June 2017, while the third season aired from July 2018 to July 2019.

The fourth and final season marked a change in studios for “Attack on Titan”, with MAPPA taking over from WIT Studio. It consisted of four parts. The first half aired in 2021, while the second half aired in 2022. The last two parts were released as two television specials, with both releasing in 2023. A final movie was recently released in 2025.
