Shonen Jump+ introduces new Bad Guy Manga Award to find the best villains in new age manga

The readers will be able to vote for their favourite manga villains!

Shonen Jump+ is bringing a new and exciting venture this year. It was announced that the manga platform has created a Bad Guy Manga Award, dedicated to finding the most attractive and intelligent villains in manga. Several manga authors have also talked about their own process of creating the perfect villains for their work.

What is the Bad Guy Manga Award?

According to Shonen Jump+, the main goal of this award is to find works with the best villains who are not only dangerous and ruthless, but also possess human qualities that make them appealing to the masses. The submissions for this award are open from 3 June to 15 September, 2025. Fans will be able to submit their favourite villain entries through the Jump Rookie platform, web submission forms, or via postal mail. Selected works will receive the Outstanding Bad Guy Award, and winning entries will be revealed on the Shonen Jump+ platform.

The Jump Rookie website also published interviews with five new gen manga artists, who shared their views on creating the perfect villain for their own stories. The five mangaka are: Naoya Matsumoto (Kaiju No. 8), Yuji Kaku (Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku, Takahiro (Chained Soldier), Tohru Kuramori (Centuria), and Kuraku Ichikawa (Drama Queen).

The Bad Guy Manga Award is one of the many 10th Anniversary Projects by Shonen Jump+. Another important project is the anime adaptation venture for one-shot manga. The platform has teamed up with several production houses such as: WIT Studio, Production I.G, and CONTRAIL. Each of these production companies will handle a one-shot manga to anime adaptation project. The whole venture will be led by production company JOEN. Fans are excited to see what else the manga platform brings as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations.
