“Frieren Beyond Journey’s End” manga to return on 23 July, 2025

The manga has been in hiatus since January 2025. 

The 33rd issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday manga magazine for 2025 has revealed that “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is returning with a new chapter in the next issue releasing on 23 July. 

The manga, which is written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, has been in hiatus since January 2025, one of many hiatuses it had undergone since 2024. The series entered its latest hiatus after the release of Chapter 140, Volume 6. Viz Media officially distributes the English version of the manga. 

The end of this hiatus comes as great news to Frieren fans, who now have more of the story to look forward to before Season 2 of the anime drops in January 2026

Season 2 will continue Frieren’s journey in 2026

Eager fans excited for Season 2 will have a ton of manga material left to consume if they want to immerse themselves in the story before the anime drops. The first season, which aired in two cours first in 2023, then in 2024, adapted up to Chapter 60 of the manga, ending right as the First-Class Mage Exam Arc concluded. 

Tomoya Kitagawa will direct Season 2, taking over from Season 1 director Keiichiro Saito. Saito will stay on as supervising director for the new season.

Additional staff joining the project include Daiki Harashina as assistant director and Tomohiro Suzuki handling series composition. Character design will be led by Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka. Seiko Yoshioka is in charge of concept art. Evan Call will also return as the series composer.

Season 2 will most likely animate the Continued Northern Travels Arc, the Divine Revolte Arc, The Golden Land Arc, and the Goddess’s Monument Arc.

Season 1 of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” is available to watch on Netflix.
