The manga adaptation of Atlus’s award-winning JRPG will also receive an English simulpub.
Shueisha has revealed that the manga adaptation of Atlus’s award-winning 2024 JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio is set to receive a simultaneous English release in the official MANGA Plus app on January 21, JST.
First announced in September 2024 at the Tokyo Game Show, the manga adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio will be illustrated by mangaka Yoichi Amano, who is known for his original works Akaboshi: Ibun Suikoden and Ana no Mujina, and will be serialised in the monthly magazine V-Jump, with the first chapter launching on Issue #3, 2025 on January 21.
Metaphor: ReFantazio’s story follows an ostracised boy from the Elda tribe who is tasked with saving the cursed prince of his nation, as political unrest and intrigue in the kingdom starts flourishing after the assassination of their king. The protagonist finds himself competing for the crown in a bid to defeat a tyrannical and power-hungry army officer, whose charismatic persona belies a misanthropic, hypocritical antagonist.
Metaphor: ReFantazio won a number of awards at The Game Awards 2024, including Best Role-Playing Game, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction. The game was also nominated for Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, and Best Score and Music.
Metaphor: ReFantazio isn’t the only Atlus JRPG to have received a manga adaptation. A number of Persona games have also received manga counterparts, notably: Persona 5, Persona 4, Persona 3, and a variety of spin-off stories based on their original stories.
