We have some bad news for manga fans. The serialisation of Kanehito Yamada (story) and Tsukasa Abe’s (art) manga series Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) has been halted. The sudden and indefinite hiatus is due to health issues that both creators have been experiencing. The Weekly Shonen Sunday Editorial team has assured the readers that the next publication date of the manga’s new chapter will be announced later.
Sousou no Frieren manga hiatus details
The news of this hiatus was posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Sousou no Frieren manga. The statement from the Weekly Shonen Sunday editorial team reads (machine translation):
Due to some health concerns of both Kanehito Yamada-sensei and Tsukasa Abe-sensei, we have talked to them about the publication of the next issue of the manga. The series will enter a hiatus as the editorial team adjusts the serialisation pace and publication schedule of the manga to continue the story. Both the authors will continue their works. And the editorial department will continue to support them. The specific release date for the next chapter will be announced in a future issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday.
Fans are hoping that the manga comes back soon and also wished that both the authors are taking care of their health. The news came out right after the publication of Sousou no Frieren Chapter 147, in the 46th issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday. However, we have no idea when the 148th chapter will be published.
The manga also entered a a number of hiatuses in the past, particularly in 2024 and 2024.
The Sousou no Frieren manga has been serialised since April 2020 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. In 2023, it was adapted into a groundbreaking anime series by Madhouse.
