Romance manga A Star Brighter Than the Sun to receive anime adaptation

The anime will start airing sometime this year.

Kazune Kawahara’s popular high-school romance manga A Star Brighter Than the Sun is finally being adapted into anime. Shueisha announced the news on Monday, February 10, 2025. The anime will debut worldwide sometime in 2025, but the release date hasn’t been decided yet. Kawahara made a commemorative illustration to celebrate the occasion, and you can see the full visual on the official website and the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the anime.

The popular romance manga series began serialising on Shueisha’s Shojo magazine Bessatsu Margaret back in 2021 and is still ongoing. Kazune Kawahara has penned many manga series before, out of which, High School Debut has already received a live-action adaptation. Moreover, Kawahara and Aruko teamed up to create the romance manga Ore Monogatari!! which was later adapted into the massively popular anime My Love Story!! Fans of the creator are excited to learn about the upcoming project as Kazune Kawahara’s stories rarely disappoint when it comes to romance.

The story of A Star Brighter Than the Sun revolves around childhood friends Sae and Koki. As their middle school life comes to an end, Sae finds out that her friend has grown up into a handsome young man. When high school rolls around, she realises that she has feelings for Koki. Unfortunately, she’s not the only one crushing on the handsome boy. But who does Koki have eyes for? The sweet childhood friends romance manga has already become quite popular, and fans can’t wait for it to be animated.
