Kagurabachi, Tokyo These Days, and more manga titles nominated for the 2025 Eisner Awards

In remembrance of Will Eisner, this award is one of the greatest prizes in the graphic novel genre.

All the nominees for the upcoming Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards 2025 have been announced! According to the Comic Con International, a total of six manga titles have been nominated for the Best U.S. Edition of International Material–Asia category. However, some other manga titles have also made their way into different categories.

The six titles nominated for the Best U.S. Edition of International Material–Asia category are:

  • Ashita no Joe: Fighting for Tomorrow by Asao Takamori and Tetsuya Chiba, translated by Asa Yonola (Kodansha)
  • Hereditary Triangle by Fumiya Hayashi, translated by Alethea and Athena Nibley (Yen Press)
  • Kagurabachi by Takeru Hokazono, translated by Camellia Nieh (VIZ Media)
  • Last Quarter by Ai Yazawa, translated by Max Greenway (VIZ Media)
  • Search and Destroy by Atsushi Kaneko, based on the work of Osamu Tezuka, translated by Ben Applegate (Fantagraphics)
  • Tokyo These Days by Taiyo Matsumoto, translated by Michael Arias (VIZ Media)

Yuna Hirasawa’s manga My Journey to Her has been nominated for the Best Digital Comic category. The Best Archival Collection/Project–Comic Books has nominated Viz Media’s X-Men: The Manga Remastered, edited by David Brothers and designed by Fawn Lau. The original series is created by Hirofumi Ichikawa, Hiroshi Higuchi, Kōji Yasue, Miyako Cojima, Rei Nakahara, and Reiji Hagiwara. Moreover, the horror manga genius Junji Ito has been nominated this year for the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame 2025.

Previously, the Best U.S. Edition of International Material–Asia award was won by My Picture Diary, by Fujiwara Maki (2024), Shuna’s Journey, by Hayao Miyazaki (2023), Lovesickness: Junji Ito Story Collection, by Junji Ito (2022), Remina, by Junji Ito (2021), Cats of the Louvre by Taiyō Matsumoto (2020), and Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama (2020).
