Nagi doesn’t want to play football anymore, but Blue Lock’s memories still haunt him.
After seeing the final panel of the last chapter of the manga where Nagi comes back to a blank and dark room, we knew the next issue will focus on him. The recent chapter did just that, and gave us a day in the life of Seishiro Nagi after Blue Lock. Although he wants to be done with football and live his life like before, the memories from Blue Lock come back to him. He struggles with regrets as he wishes he had done more to stay in the program with Reo and the others.

Blue Lock Chapter 302 recap

Seishiro Nagi wakes up in his own bed after a long time. With no Blue Lock training or match to attend, he greets Choki and puts on his high school uniform. When he reaches his classroom in Hakuho High School, all the boys in his class run to greet him. They tell him how they followed his Blue Lock career on BLTV and supported him throughout. A girl also asks him about Reo and how he’s doing. When one of the boys comments about how he can still go pro as he has an offer on the table, Nagi tells him to forget it as it’s all over. He reiterates that he is done with football for good.
As the day passes, Nagi tries to return to his old life. Sleeping and eating in class while playing games on his phone during breaks. He thinks about how easy this life is and how it’s fine that he’s not in Blue Lock anymore. While returning home, he sees a massive poster of Rin, Isagi, and Shidou, celebrating Blue Lock players’ progression into the U-20 World Cup. The next day, he repeats the same routine. But when he sees some boys playing football on the school ground, he doesn’t know why he still feels so sad.

Nagi starts to regret not trying harder during Blue Lock. The excitement and the fire he felt was new to him, so he didn’t understand until it was too late. Remembering everyone he played with during the program, he realises that Blue Lock was incredibly fun and he will never forget it. He remembers Reo’s face, and wants to go back chasing after him, Isagi, and all the other players so he doesn’t fall back. He wants to return to the Nagi that was fired up and excited about football, but it’s not possible anymore. The chapter ends with Nagi crying about the life he could only taste before it was taken away from him.
Blue Lock Chapter 302 review

The stark contrast between the current Blue Lock players and Nagi’s life felt like a punch in the gut. I did expect him to be in pain after getting kicked out of Blue Lock while Reo continued on. But getting a whole chapter dedicated to how awful Nagi feels right now definitely made me tear up. His regrets are also palpable, as there’s really no way for him to go back to Blue Lock again. However, if he follows Isagi’s request and continues to play football, then he might have a great career in the game. Although he can’t play for the national team, it doesn’t have to be the end of Nagi’s football career. However, with how much he’s suffering, I won’t be surprised if he needs another push in the right direction to continue.
