A new manga chapter won’t be published in May.
The success of The Apothecary Diaries anime has also turned a lot of people into fans of the manga. Although there are two versions of the manga series, The one adapted by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage is the more popular one. However, it was announced by Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine that the series is going to be absent from its next edition. This is due to the sudden ailment of Nekokurage.
The Apothecary Diaries manga will return in June
The Monthly Big Gangan magazine has made an X (formerly Twitter) post about the matter. It says that the manga’s scheduled chapter will be absent from Monthly Big Gangan 2025 Vol. 6, which is coming out on 23 May, 2025. However, the series will return with a new chapter in Vol. 7, which is coming out on 25 June, 2025. The editorial team sincerely apologised to everyone who was eagerly waiting for the manga.
Nekokurage, the artist behind the popular manga also took to X to explain the reason behind the sudden break. She told her fans that she has been suffering from a sore throat and whooping cough, something that has been going around lately. Due to her poor health condition, this month’s issue has been cancelled. She also apologised to the fans and told them to be careful.
This unfortunate news comes right after The Apothecary Diaries anime went on a one-week hiatus. Thankfully episode 43 (season 2, episode 19) of the anime will be back today on 23 May, 2025. Although the manga will not be back until next month, fans can take solace in the anime series in the meantime. The original light novel series is written by Natsū Hyuga, and takes place in an alternate version of the Ming Dynasty. It follows the story of a young apothecary named Maomao. After getting kidnapped and sold to the inner palace, Maomao’s life changes drastically as she gets pulled into a string of medical mysteries and political drama.
