Daiki becomes the unexpected hero for the group.
There’s no concept of unimportant characters in Dandadan as everyone serves a crucial purpose. In the recent chapter of the manga, it was Daiki, the little boy who turned into an old man due to the effects of the Cursed Trunk. He revealed his backstory and asked Raiya to take him to the cockpit to fly the plane. On the other hand, Momo, Jiji, and Zuma escape the Kito family in the nick of time.

Dandadan Chapter 199 recap
The issue begins with Raiya looking out of the plane window and being surprised that Momo, Jiji, and Zuma actually defeated the Typhoon Human. Daiki remembers the day Zuma brought him back to his apartment after his parents couldn’t recognise him and refused to take him in. He promised Daiki that he’ll fix everything. In the present, he starts asking where Zuma went, and Raiya answers that he doesn’t know. Daiki then demands to be taken to the cockpit. When Raiya asks why, he answers that he knows how to pilot a plane and can save Zuma.
Remembering Daiki’s actual young age, Raiya says there’s no way he can do that. Daiki then reveals that his father is a pilot and he would let Daiki use the computer flight simulator all the time.
Suddenly, he asks Raiya for forgiveness, saying he’s not like him or Zuma. Apparently, in his school, Daiki was really popular for being a pilot’s son. And he once made fun of another boy saying he’d never amount to anything and will probably spend his life cleaning the streets. But the boy answered that he’d be happy to do so as garbage collectors keep the city clean. It made Daiki understand that although he looked down on the boy, the pathetic one was him. He believes that he was published with this rapid aging curse because of his behaviour, and was even shunned by his parents when they couldn’t recognise him in a middle-aged man’s body. He was ready to give up and die, but then Zuma and Raiya saved him from that fate, giving him hope to live again.
Daiki says that he wants to become a decent man like Zuma and Raiya, helping other people in need. And if Raiya or Zuma are in trouble, he wants to be the kind of man that would do anything to help. In the next panel, we see Seiko feeling dizzy as her body’s still extremely weak. Suddenly, Raiya carries Daiki into the cockpit. They explain that Daiki knows how to pilot a plane and Seiko gives up the controls to them. As the plane starts to turn around, we go back to the crew that’s flying on the back of the Death Worm. Momo asks the Naki Kito to fly them towards Shimane now that the Typhoon is defeated.
However, she says that the Kito family plans to take them to their hideout to make human sacrifices. Those two words trigger Evil Eye inside Jiji and the boy frantically tries to keep the Yokai at bay. But before they can do anything, the worm is swallowed by a massive shark that comes flying at them.
Momo tells them to Jump and she, Jiji, and Zuma barely make it before the worm is swallowed. However, Evil Eye takes over and says he’ll kill every last Kito. He starts punching and kicking the shark before noticing that they’re all falling down. Momo asks Zuma to use his umbrellas, but he says that he’s used them both. Momo tells them to grab onto each other so she can use her power as a parachute. But it’s hard because Evil Eye keeps fighting Zuma, and Momo can’t form wings while carrying them both. Thankfully, she sees the plane just in time as Daiki turns it around for them. Thanks to Vamola’s pinpoint tracking abilities, Daiki, Raiya, and Seiko find Momo and the others. As Evil Eye and Zuma fight, Momo grabs onto the body of the plane with her power and saves their lives.
Dandadan Chapter 199 review
I’m glad Daiki got his spot in the limelight in this chapter. The fact that his parents refused to take him in is sad, but I understand. Hopefully when all this is over, Daiki will return to his normal state and go back to his parents as a little boy again. As always, this chapter had amazing art, and I genuinely laughed when the Kito family got swallowed by a shark. But now Evil Eye is out, and Momo will have to deal with him as soon as she finishes saving everyone. Can my girl catch a break? Overall, it was a great chapter and I hope Daiki can safely land them all in Shimane after this literal flight from hell. I’m also praying for the wellbeing of the passengers of that plane.
