The sixth episode of the manga had just been released on 6 May.
The manga adaptation of the popular light novel From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman by Shigeru Sagazaki has launched on WEBTOON in full colour and vertical scroll format, optimised for mobile reading. The first five episodes were released on 2 May, followed by a sixth episode on 6 May.
What is From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman about?
The light novel’s full title, From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman: My Hotshot Disciples Are All Grown Up Now and They Won’t Leave Me Alone, centres on middle-aged swordsman Beryl Gardenant. Once known only for running a modest dōjō in the countryside, Beryl’s life changes dramatically when his former pupil Allucia—now an elite military commander—returns. She recruits him to serve as a special instructor to the kingdom’s most powerful knights. As more of Beryl’s former students, now celebrated warriors, re-enter his life, he must confront the possibility that his best days may still lie ahead.
Originally written by Sagazaki and illustrated by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, the series began as a web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in November 2020, before being picked up by Square Enix and published under the SQEX Novel imprint in April 2021. The manga adaptation by Kazuki Satō debuted in Dokodemo Young Champion, a seinen manga web magazine by Akita Shoten, in August 2021. An anime adaptation, produced by Passione and Hayabusa Film, premiered in April 2025.
Its release on WEBTOON follows the anime's debut and extends the series’ reach to digital readers through a format tailored for smartphone-friendly, vertical viewing. Another upcoming manga set to arrive on the platform is Fullmetal Alchemist, which is scheduled for release on 7 May.
