The manga’s upcoming and abrupt ending was announced on the Shonen Jump+ website.
We have some unfortunate news for Kaiju No. 8 fans ahead of the July premiere of the anime’s second season. The original manga series by Naoya Matsumoto is coming to an end just after two more chapters after 5 years of serialisation. The news was revealed on the Shonen Jump+ website along with Chapter 127 of the manga.
Chapter 129 will be the final issue of the popular series
The announcement revealed that the final chapter of the manga will be Chapter 129, which means there will be only two more chapters in the manga. Chapter 127 came out internationally on 5 June, 2025, with Chapter 128 set for a 19 June release. If the schedule continues without hindrance, the final issue will likely be released on 3 July, 2025. This is ahead of the 19 July premiere date of the anime’s season 2.
With the final battle where it is right now, most fans seem to think that ending the manga so quickly might be too rushed. It seems that a lot of plot points might be unresolved by the time the series closes the curtains on publication just weeks from now. However, some of the fans are hopeful that Naoya Matsumoto might be working on a sequel manga series to further diversify the lore behind the monster-infested world of Kaiju No. 8. However, this is mere speculation at this point as no posts from either the publication nor the author have hinted at a second manga.
But not all hopes are lost for the Kaiju No. 8 fans. The anime series is returning this July, along with a special episode titled Hoshina’s Day Off coming out on 5 July. Not only that, but a video game titled Kaiju No. 8 THE GAME is also coming out soon. Overall, despite the manga ending, fans will have much to feast on for the foreseeable future.
